Breeds

We keep our mainstay Dairy herd of Old English Shorthorns who produce a milk that is naturally high in butterfat and omega 3, with an impressive yield for what we put into to them in terms of feed. As with all our animals we let them do what comes naturally and never push them for an increased yield or output.

In addition we keep Hampshire Down sheep which are well suited to our western climate, a hardy animal with a stocky build. These are an ideal grazing partner to our dairy herd and we finish them on our meadows which gives a very sweet meat because of all the natural herbs and flowers within their diet...

At the farmstead you will find our herd of Oxford Sandy and Black Pigs a very rare and very English breed from which Tamworths and Gloucester Old Spots were thought to have been bred. The Sandy and Black is a slowly maturing animal which is ideally suited to an outdoor life, the resultant pork is full of flavour and has a traditional taste that is rarely found in today's world of intensively reared animals.
